Baba saheb Neel kanth Kalyani commonly known as Baba Kalyani is the chairman and managing director of Bharat Forge.
Bharat Forge Limited is an Indian multinational company which is a technology-driven global leader in metal forming and manufacturing that includes sectors like automobile, power, oil and gas, rail & marine, aerospace, construction & mining, etc. BFL is a $2.5 billion conglomerate with over 10,000 global work forces. It has now become the world’s largest forging company with manufacturing facilities spread across India, Germany, Sweden and China.
BFL is the flagship company of the Kalyani Group which is the world’s second largest forgings manufacturer.This Group is a privately held industrial group in India which was found by Nilkanthrao Kalyani who was the father of Baba Kalyani. It is specialized in Specialty Steel, Forgings, Auto Components, Renewable Energy &Infrastructure and Specialty chemicals.It has joint ventures with several leading global companies like ArvinMeritor, Carpenter Technology Corporation and Hayes Lemmerz in USA, FAW Corporation in China and Alstom, NTPC and David Brown Gear Systems in UK.
About Mr. Kalyani
Baba Kalyani was born on 7th January 1949 in Pune to Neelakanth Kalyani and Sulochana Kalyani. He completed his schooling in Rastriya Military School in Belgaum. He pursued his BE in Mechanical Engineering in the 1970 and MS degree at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in US. In 1972, he joined his father for the specific flagship company Bharat Forge. Initially the company’s turnover was $1.3 million. During this period Mr. Kalyani started 11 manufacturing facilities across India, USA, Germany, Sweden and China which led him to the India’s richest people list with a net worth of $2.5 Billion. Recently, he has developed partnership with Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
For a clean and emission-free environment, he set up Kenersys Ltdwhich manufactures various energy-efficient wind turbines for domestic and international markets. The company has its wind turbines to generate ‘green energy’ in Maharashtra. He developed the solar energy equipment for the non-conventional energy sector. Now his target is on hybrid solution for which Bharat Forge has a joint venture with KPIT Cummins to meet its vehicular emission targets.
He founded the NGO Pratham Education Foundation in Pune. It provides primary education to under-privileged children of the local community. He also provided free technical and vocational training to rural youth at a government Industrial Training Institute in Taluka, Pune. At the same time he supports various NGOs and charitable institutes related to education for the needy.

Mr. Kalyani’s contributions to industry and the community have beenrecognized through prestigious awards.
In 2004, he was awarded CEO of the year by the Business Standard group.
In 2005, he received the Entrepreneurof the year by Ernst &Young.
In 2006, he was recognized as the Businessman of the year by Business India Magazine.
In 2009, he received the Global Economy prize by Kiel Institute, Germany.
In 2011, he received the Forge Master award at 20th International Forging Convention in Hyderabad for the contribution to the forging industry and he was recognized for BITS-Pilani Distinguished Alumni award.
In 2012, he received the Lifetime achievement award by Asian Business Leadership Forum in Abu Dhabi, he was awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit by President of the Federal Republic of Germany for strengthening the Business& Economic Ties between India & Germany and Doctor of Science from IIT-Kharagpur by President of India for his contribution to entrepreneurship for making Bharat Forge the world leader in forging.
For Indo French ties he was conferred by the knight in the order of the Legion of Honor by President of the French Republic.
