Ekta Kapoor is an Indian Television and film producer. She is the Joint Managing Director and Creative Director of Balaji Telefilms. It is her production company. The serials produced by Balaji Telefilms have dominated the major T.V. channels in India.
Personal Life
Ekta was born on June 7th 1975. She is the daughter of actor Jeetendra and Shobha Kapoor. Her brother Tusshar Kapoor is a Bollywood actor. She completed her schooling from Bombay Scottish School. She joined Mithibhai College. She was not interested in studying further. Hence, her father asked her to step in the production house. She had started her career at an early age of seventeen. She tried her luck attending the shoots of Kailash Surendranath, the ad and feature filmmaker. At the age of 20, she changed the face of the television industry. The industry was dominated by her production house. She took the financial help from her father by starting Balaji creations.She made six pilots and three episodes. These were rejected. After a great effort she featured Hum Paanch. It was a great success.
Ekta has produced and co-produced many soap operas, television series and films. She has produced more than 25 serials. She has captured the imagination of masses. She has produced the famous venture ‘KyunkiSaasBhiKabhiBahuThi’ in the year 2000. Other famous serials were ‘Kahaani GharGhar Ki’, ‘KahiinToHoga’, ‘Kavyanjali’, ‘KyaaHogaNimmoKaa’, ‘Kasamh Se’, ‘KahinKisii Roz’, ‘KasautiiZindagi Kay’, ‘Kkusum’, ‘Kutumb’, ‘Kalash’ and ‘Kundali’. Most of the serials start with the letter ‘K’. She feels it brings her good luck. She had received lot of criticism. But still she overcame it and had a great success.
She ventured into Bollywood movie production in the year 2001 beginning with KyoKii… Main JhuthNahinBolta,KucchTo Hai and Krishna Cottage based on supernatural themes followed in 2003 and 2004.In the year 2012, she created a big success for her movie ‘the Dirty Picture’. She has new hit serials like ‘Bade AchheLagte Hain’, ‘Kya HuaaTeraVaada’ and ‘PavitraRishta’. She maintains her private and professional life successfully. She plans herself with a great attitude looking after the production house.
Awards
At a short span, she has achieved many civic honors.She was chosen to lead the Confederation of Indian Industries’ (CII) entertainment committee.
In 2001, she has been awarded the Ernst & Young (E&Y) Startup Entrepreneur of the Year.
In 2006, she was awarded the Indian Telly Awards.
She is also a receiver of The Society Achiever Award.
